Walk for Water 2021

On Saturday, March 20, walkers will safely gather in Riverfront Park or the location of their choice for the 15th Annual Water Mission Walk for Water in Charleston.

We walk because more than 2.2 billion people around the world do not have access to safe water. In many countries, women and children walk over three miles each day to gather water for their families. Oftentimes, it’s water that is unsafe to drink. By joining the Walk for Water, you are helping Water Mission provide accessible, life-saving safe water solutions for hundreds of thousands of people.

This year, walkers will have two options. You may register for a specific time slot to join others at Riverfront Park or walk virtually at a location and time of your choice.

No matter which option you choose, please register as a member of the St. Michael’s team!

While the Walk may look a little different, the mission remains the same: We walk so others don’t have to.

RIVERFRONT PARK WALK OPTION

At Riverfront Park, Walk for Water will host 250 participants beginning each half hour.

When you arrive at the park, you’ll be directed to grab an empty bucket at the designated start line and begin the Walk. Halfway through the Walk route, you’ll fill your bucket with water—simulating the trek that millions of women and children make each day to collect water. At the end of the Walk, you’ll empty your bucket.

Note: Water Mission will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) safe gathering recommendations. All walkers will be required to wear masks, and there will not be an opening ceremony this year. Read more about the COVID-19 precautions, here.

VIRTUAL WALK OPTION

You may prefer to walk on your own, at a location of your choice. If you choose to walk in your own neighborhood or local park, please register for the Walk as a member of the St. Michael’s team, in order to receive a Walk for Water t-shirt and participant materials.

Walk for Water also encourages you to register in advance of the Walk to ensure that you’ll have plenty of time to pick up your t-shirt and materials prior to Walk day. Please note, they will not be able to distribute t-shirts on the day of the Walk.

A Virtual Walk Guide will be available in February that contains resources and tips to make your walk day a success! Check it out at charlestonwalk.org.
