Some years ago, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis conducted a study on cultures and prosperity. The study concluded that those countries with a wide belief in hell are less corrupt and in general, healthier and more prosperous. I submit to you if we don’t have a healthy view of evil and hell, we will never understand Jesus and our true need for him. This distaste and avoidance of evil, sin and hell has created a dangerous virus I’m calling: The Spiritual Swine-flu. We all carry symptoms of it, symptoms that if gone unchecked can end us up in the same deadly place as the swine in today’s Gospel. So, let me take you to one of the deadliest and scariest part of the sea of Galilee.
