Christmas Stockings for Lieber Inmates

Christmas Stockings for Lieber Inmates

There are 1100 inmates at Lieber Correctional Institute in Ridgeville.  They have had no visitation at all from their families for eight (8) months as they have been locked down due to Covid 19.  The inmates have to rely on family and volunteers to provide them personal hygiene items and they are desperately in need of these items.
Last year at Christmas, some of the correctional officers and volunteers stuffed 80 red felt stockings with soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, white tube socks and a sweet. (This was predominantly organized by St. Clare of Assisi’s prison ministry on Daniel Island.)
This year, some correctional officers at Lieber have asked St. Clare of Assisi to reach out to other churches and organizations for help as their goal is to be able to give every inmate a Christmas stocking. That means we need to identify about 22 churches and organizations to donate. If you can help by donating supplies for stockings it would be a real blessing for the inmates at Lieber.
Below is a list of what is needed:
1.      Simple red felt stockings, homemade or available at the Dollar Store for $1.00 each;
2.      Regular size toothbrushes and regular size tooth paste;
3.      Bars of regular size soap;
4.      Men’s white short sleeved under shirts, various sizes;
5.      Regular size containers of any type deodorant;
6.      Candy canes or wrapped cookies or bars; and
7.      Handwritten cards or notes or hand drawn pictures of encouragement (a perfect way to get children or teens involved.)
PLEASE DO NOT STUFF THE STOCKINGS
PLEASE DO NOT WRAP ANY OF THE ITEMS
All of the items all have to go through security. Volunteer inmates at Lieber will stuff the stockings, as they did last year (and write thank you cards.)
You can place your items in a paper bag labeled Lieber, and drop off with Catherine Bowen in the front office of St. Michael’s Church, 71 Broad Street.
PLEASE DROP OFF DONATIONS BEFORE THANKSGIVING
Many thanks for your help.
The inmates at Lieber will be very grateful and blessed by your generosity.
