Five Questions & Answers About Giving

Question #1:   What Does the Bible Say About Giving?

Old Testament:  Honor the Lord with your wealth and the first fruits of your produce.  ~ Proverbs 3: 9

New Testament:  Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. ~ Luke 6: 38

Question #2:  How Much Should I Give?

Old Testament: “Bring the full 10 percent into the storehouse so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this way,” says the Lord of Hosts. “See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure.” ~ Malachi 3: 10

New Testament:   Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:7

Question #3:  Why Should I Submit a Giving Card?

ANSWER:  Like any family or business, your church must operate with the financial resources it has available.  Families know their income and businesses are aware of their funding streams.  They can plan and prepare budgets accordingly. To build a church budget, St. Michael’s must rely on pledges of support provided by members and supporters.  This is its “income” and “revenue stream.”

Question #4:  Is My Giving Card Legally Binding?

ANSWER: No.  Through our giving, however, God knows our heart and commitment to his Kingdom building work here on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Question #5:  Can I Take My Wealth to Heaven?

ANSWER:  YES!  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.   ~ Matthew 6: 19-20
