Testimony of faith
By Rabindra Nath Ray
My name is Rev. Rabindra Nath Ray. At present I am working as an assistant priest at St. Michael’s and All Angel’s Cathedral in Durgapur Diocese, CNI. My spouse’s name is Jhampa Ray and two daughters are Sophia and Rebekah. I want to relate my testimony to my friends overseas.
I was born and brought up in a Hindu family. Before I knew Jesus Christ, I followed all the rituals and customs of Hinduism and worshipped different idols. Due to poverty in my family, I could not continue my studies after passing the Madhyamik Examination (equivalent to ICSE – Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi). I engaged myself in daily works of a labor to earn my living. I could believe if I will do charitable work I will get salvation.
One day I was told by one of my friend that there is a church in my city where they worship Jesus Christ. As he requested me a lot, I went to that church with my friend. The pastor of the church told me that Jesus Christ has died the death for my sins and had shed His holy blood on the Cross. He also asked me to receive His forgiveness for my sins by accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. He is the way of salvation. By believing Him, I can get salvation and there is no path from just good works. I was moved by his words and felt an earnest inner desire of receiving His forgiveness as well as salvation. I repented of my sins and asked Him to forgive my sins and be the Lord and Savior of my life on February 11, 1992.
He fulfilled His promise by forgiving my sins and I received a wonderful inner joy and peace for His presence in my life. Being with me he helped me to get rid of all my old habits and live a life with a goal. Since that day He Has always been with me to guide and lead me. So, I pray that I may be used for His kingdom and righteousness throughout my life; may he help me to be always away from the works of the flesh; that His will be fulfilled in my life.
In 2002 I have done my B.Th course and 2007 I have completed M.Div course at Union Biblical Seminary in Pune, Maharashtra. I have gathered a lot of experiences during my seminary life as well as ministry life. This has given me enough opportunity to be grown up in the Lord. I believe that this has never been possible without His blessings. From the very day received Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour, I realized that he wants to work through my life. Though I was totally involved in the world with all its pleasures, He helped me, like Apostle Paul, to get rid of them. In my last eight years of seminary life, He has listened to my secret prayers and answered the in many miraculous ways. I have also been blessed to preach His Words at different places, and many times I have faced the oppositions. But He has provided me with wisdom to overcome all those oppositions.
I have also been blessed by accompanying with different medical teams now and in the past. It has helped me to open my eyes to see the great need of the Gospel for the people of our country. Even I have also been blessed through OSL (Order of St. Luke the Physician) ministry, Festival of Hope and Festival of Joy ministries. The “Fasting and Prayer” experience has also been a blessing in my Christian life. Like many Leaders of the Bible, I have been greatly blessed through this, when I have felt His real presence in my life and in my very personal problems.
If I want to express my Christian life in a word, then I would like to say that it is only through the GRACE of God, from the very beginning to the end.
