In 1953, cartoonist Chuck Jones first aired his animated classic ‘Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog’. With each episode, Ralph and Sam clock-in and clock-out as if working at a plant. Ralph is always scheming to trick Sam with different disguises in order to steal a sheep. But at the end of each episode, Sam is victorious in keeping the sheep safe, and the two adversaries leave as friends until the next day. If only danger from the enemy were that easy to identify and defeat. As we discover today, Herod is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and never clocks-out in his attempt to steal the Lamb of God. But even greater is our God, who never clocks-out in caring for His sheep and always leading them safely into his fold.
