How Do We Live, In Such a Time as This ?

We meet Elijah on the mountain worn and battle-weary, ready to die. His emotions are, in fact, so bleak that some have suggested he was having some sort of psychotic episode in the cave. By the end of our passage, Elijah has effectively been decommissioned from active duty, his prophetic ministry transferred into the hands of others. Today, many of us may resonate with Elijah’s weariness and discouragement. The battle may seem daunting, our prospects dim. And yet remarkably, in the midst of this dark passage, God speaks in a still, small voice. We don’t know what He says, but it makes all the difference. This morning, God is still speaking, giving us what we need most. Together, let us hearken to His voice.
