I thought it appropriate to report to you upon reflection on the annual meeting surveys we sent out.
- My principal goal as warden has been to increase communication between the vestry and the congregation regarding what we are doing at St. Michael’s. This is also a desire of the congregation. The vestry open houses held last September and May were well-received. We will have more of these with the next set for Sunday, August 27 after the 10:30 service. We will have a church picnic with an open forum for discussion and question and answer period as well as an opportunity to meet with your staff and vestry. Other forums are also being planned.
- A second interest has been with administration at the church and the amount of staff turnover. We have just brought on Deacon Randy Shirley who has a wealth of experience in this area. He has jumped into his role with great vigor, and we are already seeing the fruits of his efforts at St. Michael’s. I welcome Randy, his wife Liz, and their family into our flock.
- A third desire noted is the need for more Bible study offerings. Our discussion for plans this fall include an effort to accommodate both the ongoing Life Groups and to start neighborhood connection groups to incorporate more members into the community within the church. A Bible study will be proposed for both new and ongoing Life Groups with the neighborhood meetings.
- Finally, there was a desire for more emphasis to be placed on our Holy City mission. We seek to expand these ministry opportunities right here in our own backyard while continuing with the programs we already have underway; e.g., Sanders Clyde and Church of the Resurrection.
We have much in play at St. Michael’s Church, and I thank you for participating in our survey. We look forward to our fall kickoff at St. Michaels and continuing our communication efforts. We are all here to walk together on the road with Jesus Christ as our one true leader and advocate!
