Praise and Glory Ministry

By Betty Schaffer

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7

As women in the Diocese of South Carolina, our mission is “to live with hearts of thankfulness and to practice generosity for the praise and glory of God.”

Who:  Every woman in our diocese is encouraged to join in our Praise and Glory ministry (formerly. UTO or United Thank Offering collected in blue boxes.)

How:  To make your Praise and Glory Jar, choose a jar and some ribbon.  You may get a label for your jar from the Welcome Center on Sundays during Lent. Place your jar in a visible location in your home or office to remind you to show thanks by your offerings not only for the big things in our lives but even the smallest details that you are thankful for.

Why:  Each time you think of something for which you are thankful, you just drop a donation of your choice into your Praise and Glory Jar. These small acts of praise and glory to God are on-going throughout the year and are a great way to involve your family in worship. Our prayers so often ask God for something, but we often forget to thank Him for the many blessings that we receive daily. This is a great reminder of just how many blessings we do receive and God’s faithfulness daily.

Focus:  For the coming year, our focus will be the Rev. Martha Horn Memorial Scholarship Fund for Women’s Retreats. Our beloved Martha, chaplain for Diocesan Women’s Ministry, keynote speaker for two women’s retreats and numerous other events, as well as dear friend of many women in this diocese, not only lived her life for Christ, but also deeply loved women’s ministry seeking any opportunity to bring the women of this diocese into a relationship with Christ.

When:  Make a donation whenever you feel that you want to praise God or are thankful for a particular blessing.  The Diocese recognizes the Sunday before Advent and the Sunday after Easter as our two Praise and Glory Jar days. Once you’ve collected your money, convert it into a check made payable to “Diocesan Church Women” noting Praise and Glory in the memo line.  Give to your leader or mail it  as follows:
