Dynamic Downtown Worship in the Anglican Tradition

What is a Holy City Connects? – A Message from the Rector

Dear St. Michaelites:

Recently using the prophet Nehemiah, I preached on the importance of building the ministry as Nehemiah built his wall with sword and trowel. We continue to build the discipleship ministry of St. Michael’s Church in three ways: First through Alpha which transforms hearts through the foundations of faith. Second through Life Groups which transforms hearts through community and discipleship. This year we are adding a third dimension that I would love for you to participate called Holy City Connects.

What is a Holy City Connects?

Today at St Michael’s we typically meet, learn together and worship in two types of gatherings –  Sunday services and Life Groups. In Sunday services we come together in large groups for traditional or contemporary styles of worship.  Life Groups on the other hand are small groups, typically less than 12 people, who meet regularly and often go deep into study together.

Holy City Connects are mid-sized groups (15-50) meeting every other week and open to anyone.  They “fill the gap” between very large services and very small groups. Holy City Connects provide support in the faith as well as community for folks old and new, for those just coming out of Alpha or just haven’t found a Life Group.  They are casual evenings that follow an Alpha-like formula – relaxed conversation with dinner, a Bible focused teaching, small group time for discussion and a chance to ask for prayer.

When will Holy City Connects meet?

Every other week during the weeks of:

  1. September 25
  2. October 9
  3. October 23
  4. November 13
  5. November 27

What does this mean for your life group?

We are inviting life groups (that currently meet every other week) to meet during the alternate weeks of:

  1. October 1
  2. October 15
  3. October 29
  4. November 5
  5. November 19

The connects groups will be studying the Gospel of Luke, specifically the five meals that Jesus had and what those meals teach about authentic community. We are recommending that Life Groups adopt our Romans curriculum. This series from Romans will be focused on what Paul teaches about community. Sundays will be the day we tie it all together where before each Connect group week, we will preach from the Luke Passage and before each Life Group week we will preach from the selected Romans passage.

Regardless of whether you have taken Alpha or have a Life Group, now is the time to press in with the trowel into our connect movement! Each Holy City Connect group begins promptly at 7 and ends at 9pm.
