Dynamic Downtown Worship in the Anglican Tradition

Fall 2017 Preaching and Teaching Series “Come to the Table”

Charleston has been described as a place for “foodies.” Foodies are those who don’t just love food, they love the “creative” creation of food as well as its consumption. I believe that Jesus too was a foodie. In fact its been said that throughout the life of Jesus, he was either coming from a meal or going to one. We break bread every Sunday to “do this in remembrance of Jesus.” In general, the Bible begins and ends with a meal! It speaks to our need for Jesus, and our need for each other.

This fall we will look deeply into this profound topic of community through the Gospel of Luke and the book of Romans.

The Sunday sermons will work with the content being taught in our Holy City Connects Movement and Life Groups. Every other week during the Holy City Connects, our talk leaders will teach on one of the ‘5’ meals that Jesus had. These ‘5’ meals are featured in the Gospel of Luke. In the in between weeks for our Life Groups, we are recommending a teaching series out of Romans (this curriculum is available on our website) also focused on community. To tie it all together, the sermon on the Sunday before each Holy City Connects and Life Group meeting will feature the reading to be studied that following week so when you get to Holy City Connects and your life group, you will be primed for deeper study!

The book we recommend to you: “A Meal with Jesus” by Tim Chester.
