Reasons to Support the ACNA

Your church was represented well at the 226th Convention of the Diocese of South Carolina. The big news of Convention was the vote on affiliation with the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA).   This affiliation was studied by our diocese for several years (we also held two information sessions here at St. Michaels).  The vote…

Other News from the Convention

We began on Friday afternoon with workshops;  this year the Rev. David Booman and I were asked by Bishop Lawrence to offer a workshop on our relationship with Mother Emanuel Church and our joint ministries since the tragedy there.  After the workshops, we participated in our Convention Eucharist, with the sermon by the Rt. Rev. Al Gadsden of the Reformed Episcopal Church.…

Where are We with our Search for a Sr. Associate?

With the Rev. Mark Avera spending 2/3 time at our partner church in North Charleston (Church of the Resurrection), and a 1/3 time here in mission work, we are in need of a Sr. Associate. Early in April our personnel committee, vestry, and staff will meet our second candidate. Following a time of discernment and collaboration, I will either make a call…

Fruit of the Spirit Preaching Series Continues

During Lent, we have been diving into the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5. You remember them, right? It’s so important that we hear each sermon…

Church of the Resurrection, North Charleston

By Rev. Mark Avera As I write, I am now three services (Ash Wednesday and the two Sundays following) and one Bible study into life at Church of the Resurrection, and it just feels right.  I am blessed to serve a congregation of committed disciples who are hungry for more of Jesus and eager to follow both His leading and His appointed…

Global Impact Celebration Report

By Rev. Mark Avera It is hard to believe that it has been over a month since we concluded this year’s Global Impact Celebration. This year, we were blessed to hear from Peter Rothermel, Jonathan Ziman, and Rob Rienow about the significance of the family in God’s mission to the world, and we were challenged…

Treasurer’s Report

After closing out a balanced budget in 2016, with income virtually matching operating expenses of approximately $2.2 million, we are off to a slower start in 2017. Through February, total revenue was $232,862, about 10.2% of the full year budget and $150,000 behind the 16.7% ($380,000) that was budgeted. Early March income was somewhat more encouraging, but we are still behind last…
