The Essential Jesus “A picture is worth a thousand words,” as the saying goes. But in this case “a thousand words is worth a picture.” The fact is that we have no photograph of Jesus,. Even though most of us have seen innumerable artistic renditions of what he might have looked like, our mental images of Jesus may be warped and socially conditioned. If so, then the real Jesus eludes us. That’s why we need to go back to the Word – both the words he spoke, and the words his friends wrote about him. From those words we’ll get a picture that just may reshape our own mental image. This fall at St. Michael’s, we’re going to take a long, hard look at who this real Jesus was. We’ll refer to the recent spate of literature about who he was; but our chief textbook will be the Bible. After all, it was written by people who knew the one Jesus called “Father” (i.e. the Old Testament), and also by those who saw that Father’s image perfectly reflected in the one who called himself “the Son” (i.e. The New Testament). Don’t miss this course. It may change your life. It combines: * daily readings * a sermon series * a Life Group study guide * in-depth talks that dig deeper than you’ve ever thought (i.e. Thursday Large Group meetings)
